A Daisy A Day

The daisies currently booming up a storm in my garden made me think of this.
Maine singer/songwriter released A Daisy A Day in 1973. Strunk, who was born in New York, adopted Maine & wrote many songs about his new home.
Jud Strunk was 45 when he passed away in a plane crash.
I often heard my grandmother humming this song, when I was a child.

Daisy A Day
He remembers the first time he met ‘er
He remembers the first thing she said
He remembers the first time he held her
And the night that she came to his bed
He remembers her sweet way of singin'
Honey has somethin' gone wrong
He remembers the fun and the teasin'
And the reason he wrote ‘er this song
I'll give you a daisy a day
I'll give you a daisy a day
I'll love you until the rivers run still
And the four winds we know blow away
They would walk down the street in the evenin'
And for years I would see them go by
And their love that was more than the clothes that they wore
Could be seen in the gleam of their eye
As a kid they would take me for candy
And I loved to go taggin' along
We'd hold hands while we walked to the corner
And the old man would sing ‘er his song
I'll give you a daisy a day
I'll give you a daisy a day
I'll love you until the rivers run still
And the four winds we know blow away
Now he walks down the street in the evenin'
And he stops by the old candy store
And I somehow believe he's believin'
He's holdin' ‘er hand like before
For he feels all her love walkin' with him
And he smiles at the things she might say
Then the old man walks up to the hilltop
And gives her a daisy a day
I'll give you a daisy a day
I'll give you a daisy a day
I'll love you until the rivers run still
And the four winds we know blow away

Maine Musicians: Sonny Probe

This is maybe my favorite Sonny Probe song of all time:

Colliding Galaxies

And that's saying something. I'm so fond of Sonny Probe I married him.

What Are You Doing St. Patty's Day?

I love Irish Music because it's so singable, if that's a word, and I love St. Patrick's Day, because normal people - people just like you and me - sing in bars. In public! Right in front of God & everyone.Possibly because they are drunk, but I rather think it's because singing is fun, and the drinking is just an excuse.

Some sing better than others, though, and if you want to her some of the best, come out to RiRa, 72 Commercial St in Portland,  on the 17th. The Keenans will be playing and singing Irish tunes fron 12-4. Full disclosure: Chris Keenan is my brother, so while I can really, truly and honestly enthuse about how much I enjoy this show every year, I'd say that even if I didn't. But I do! Come see for yourself. We'll sing along, badly, and no one will care. We'll forget the words, and pretend we know how to step dance, then laugh until the beer comes out our noses. Just come, you'll see.

The Toddy Song

A real Maine song. Lyrics NSFW!

The denizens of Central Maine are, among other things, an earthy lot. Or maybe salty is the better word. I first heard this song a couple of years ago at a party at disc golf course in Sidney, when a stranger picked up my husband's acoustic guitar and just sat down and started playing. I couldn't quit laughing, because it's so much like so many stories I have heard here, in language and detail. It stuck with me, so finally I went searching YouTube for it. I thought it was hopeless, but everything is on YouTube these days. Enjoy.
